ABOUT ME


Deana Brooksher DC graduated from Life University in Marietta, GA in 1997 as a Doctor of Chiropractic, with the clinical excellence award.  She founded The Center for Holistic Health in Decatur, GA in 1998.  Inspired by her monthly hikes at Panther Creek, she decided to leave the big city and simplify her life.  She sold the Center of Holistic Health to her colleague and friend, Dr. Gene Clerkin and moved to the mountains in 2004.  A Garden for Wellness  in Sautee, GA in 2007 and moved it to Clarkesville in 2010.

An Alternative Medicine Cabinet

Yesterday I gave a 4 hour workshop entitled "An Alternative Medicine Cabinet".  It turns out that ALL drugs have effects.  The word "side effect" makes no sense AND is great for marketing.  While there is a time and a place for drugs, it is my opinion, they should be a last resort. Using herbs, vitamins, minerals, homeopathic remedies and flower essences are ways we can support our profound innnate intelligence.  

If a parent consistently does for the child, the child will never do for himself/herself.  It is the same for your immune system.  If you consistently reach for a drug to eliminate symptoms, you will weaken your immune system and in some cases cause atrophy.  I have never read that cancer is caused by regular use of over the counter medications, likely, because most have not been proven to cause cancer directly.  But what about the cumulative effect?

Recipes from Wellness Works

Broccoli Potato Soup

12 red potatoes diced
1 head of broccoli
2 onions chopped
2 Tablespoons of onions
4 Cups of broth
1 Tablespoon of rosemary, oregano and thyme (optional)
Salt and Pepper to taste

Sautee the onions in olive oil. When the onions are translucent add herbs, broth, potatoes and stalks of broccoli and some tops. Save about have of the tops for later. Cook until the potatoes and broccoli stems are tender. Puree the ingredients. Add the remaining tops and cook until tender. Serve with grated cheese and red pepper flakes.

Asparagus Soup

2 onions chopped
2 Tablespoons of Olive Oil
4 Cups of broth (I used vegetable broth)
Bunch of Asparagus
Salt and Pepper to taste

Sautee the onions in the olive oil. 
Chop the tops off the asparagus.

When the onions become translucent add the water, asparagus bottoms,salt and pepper. Cook until tender. Puree the mixture. Add the tops to the Puree and cook until tender.

International Exchange Students Visit Habersham County

When a group of American and British Exchange students and leaders met in NorthGeorgia last week, their schedule was packed with activities and destinations:theatre productions, Atlanta Aquarium, CNN tour, a talent show and more.
But when it was time to experience the best of the North Georgia mountains, theychose Clarkesville and Habersham County. Over eighty high school students andtheir leaders were part of the performing arts exchange program with studentsfrom Reddish Vale Technology College near Manchester England, visiting their hostsfrom North Hall, Johnson and Duluth High Schools in Georgia. Last summer theAmericans visited their English hosts for a fun and eventful trip, and the exchangecontinues this summer with another trip across the pond.


The group’s Habersham adventure began Wednesday morning with a trip toTallulah Gorge. Bob Brooksher, a Team Building facilitator with Montara Farm inClermont, guided the group on hikes, a visit to the interpretive center, and viewingof the excellent short ...
